Martin Taylor

Martin has worked in the Building Control profession in varying capacities over the last 27 years.

Graduating from Birmingham University with a Degree in Building Surveying, Martin was one of the first Building Control professionals to obtain corporate membership of the RICS when Building Control became recognised as a separate discipline in 2001.

Working at a range of District, Borough and Metropolitan local authorities together with private sector Approved Inspector experience Martin has delivered Building Control services to a wide portfolio of clients and building types.

After graduating from Warwick University with a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Leadership and Management Martin’s career diversified into a role of wider public sector management being responsible for the group management of a range of services including Building Control, Development Management, Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Asset and Facilities Management. Martin’s last role in the public sector being as Head of Development and Regulatory Management at Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council where he attempted to reduce waste from unnecessary internal procedures more especially within the Planning section.

At LABC Martin transformed the former Type Approval System into LABC Registered Details, a process that is now widely recognised and well established for certifying construction systems for national compliance with English, Welsh and Scottish Building Regulations

A keen supporter of innovation and alternative methods of construction Martin now takes on a wider role for LABC leading on all the commercial functions and opportunities for LABC whilst simultaneously seeking to streamline and simplify the Building Control process and develop the concept of compliance through design. Reduce the performance gap whilst simultaneously responding to the shortage of industry skills.
